Hotel star ratings. [Oct. 16th, 2007|04:16 pm]
Kake
In France, I am told, the star rating of a hotel is determined by government inspection. Given this, do any of you happen to know if there's a definitive list anywhere on the interweb that I can search to find out the current star rating of a given hotel (in France)?

I won't give a list because there are about 50 of them that I want to know about. Some of them are actually on the Swiss side of the border, too, so any help in that direction would also be welcome.

(General googling isn't much help; googling for a random sample of five led to one failure to find any information and two cases where different sites gave different numbers of stars.)

Yes they are. The criteria are listed <a href="http://www.paris-eiffel-tower-news.com/editorials/hotel-rating.htm>here</a>. The french government website might be a good place to start, and appears to be at http://www.service-public.fr/ It's in french though (reasonably enough), and I don't know enough french to navigate it. Searching for "hotel" brings up some results that look promising...

Sites such as expedia etc. list star ratings of their hotels, so that might help...
Also note that the french star system is very different to other systems, and does not necessarily measure what you might expect

Yep, I understand how the French system works. Expedia is helpful in some cases, but it's not a definitive source, so when it disagrees with other sites I don't know which one to believe. I suppose I need to find someone who speaks French and point them at the government site you found!

Thanks - I had a look, but again there are cases (the second one I checked in fact) where it disagrees with other sites, so I don't know which one to believe.
