Ingredients game. [May. 18th, 2005|02:14 pm]

Hello. Let's play a game. All you need to do is:

  • Either reply to this post with an ingredient,
  • or reply to someone else's comment, quoting the list of ingredients already in that comment and adding one more,
  • or reply to someone else's comment with an idea for a recipe using the ingredients in the comment you're replying to. You can assume that in addition to those ingredients you also have things like flour, oil, water, salt and pepper, standard dried herbs, vinegar, etc. No hard rules on this one, just be reasonable.

I can't stop you from adding ridiculous ingredients, but you probably won't get any followups if you do. You can play as many times and in as many branches as you like.

Black pudding...vegan...hmm...something seems wrong there but I can't quite put my finger on it.

I didn't realise that vegans made quiche with tofu until last week. The idea still fills me with alarmingly high levels of fear.

Cut the tofu into squares 2cm thick, cover with sweet white miso and leave in the fridge for a week. Clean off the miso - it will have permeated all the way into the tofu - and shallow-fry the tofu until the outside is lightly browned.

Slice and fry the black pudding.

Meanwhile, slice the capsicums and saute with some thinly-sliced garlic. Add a slosh of red wine and some balsamic vinegar, and reduce.

To serve, put a square of tofu on a plate, pile some of the capsicums on top, and top it off with a slice of black pudding.

(Yes, miso, red wine and balsamic vinegar are storecupboard ingredients.)
